I found an out-of-the-box publisher who also happens to live in my neighborhood. He invested in self-publishing my novels. He formatted the book himself and paid for a copy editor and printing. He is also in charge of distribution and promotion. I created the cover art. Each sale earns me royalties.
Last month, I received my first royalty check. I don't think I'll be able to live off royalties for a long time, at least not until I have many books out there, but I didn't have to pay anything and now have three novels out there that people are enjoying.
