Hazardous Waste Management Rules are published to ensure that hazardous waste is safely and responsibly handled, generated, processed, treated, packaged, stored, transported, reprocessed, converted, and offered for sale, as well as destroyed and disposed of. The Hazardous Waste (Management, Handling, and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2008, replaced the prior notice and were modified in 2003, and ultimately with the Hazardous Waste (Management, Handling, and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2008 final notification. The Ministry of Environment, the Central Pollution Control Board, and state/UT governments are all mentioned in the Rules.
